(WMC-TV) - A car had to be towed after it was stuck in a flooded street Tuesday.

The driver, Kyndle McMahan, of the maroon Nissan is a college student.

"I actually skipped class today, my 8 a.m. So this was probably karma for skipping class," she said.

She was not going to skip her afternoon voice class, but on the way to class on Goodlett Street heading toward Poplar and Walnut Grove roads her commute came to a halt.

"I was trying to get, I guess, around a car, and I just had bad judgment and I got in this humongous pond right there," she said. "And it just stopped. And so there I was, stuck."

Memphis police blocked the street as the car was towed, but at least McMhan is not injured.

"It could've been much worse. Luckily I just got stuck," she said.

She may have been late to voice, but she didn't skip altogether.

"The cops are so graciously taking me back to the classroom," said McMahan.

The changing weather made it tough for the Shelby County Office of Preparedness to know exactly what to do, but now they are ready in the command center watching for what Wednesday's weather brings.

"We don't want the citizenry to get frustrated, because we're certainly out her to provide a safe environment for them," said preparedness director Bob Nations.

Tipton County also experienced flooding along with iced trees and branches falling into the roadways Tuesday. On Highway 19 coming into Ripley, an iced tree fell across the road blocking it.

Shelby County and other Mid-South counties were under a flash flood warning Tuesday afternoon. Read more about weather here.
