(WMC-TV) – It is hard to forget what 86-year-old Georgie McKee, of Southaven, Miss. looked like after a brutal attack in her own home sent her to the hospital. The man accused of hurting her appeared in court Wednesday.

Kwame Becton arrived to his first court appearance on a bus with several other inmates. It took only about 10 minutes for his case to be bound over to a grand jury. Afterward, he was sent back to jail.

Becton had only three words to say to the cameras before entering the courtroom:

"You're scaring me," he said.

Becton is accused of beating McKee, known to everyone as "Ms. Georgia."

Her friend, Jean Cain, told Action News 5 that what she has gone through is just heartbreaking.

McKee called Cain's husband, Rawley, for help after waking up with bruises and cuts on December 31, 2013.

Becton has family in McKee's neighborhood, and he was named as a suspect. He, and McKee's missing car, were found in Chicago a few weeks ago.

"We're anxious to see what happened," said Jean Cain. "You know, what would be a motivation for someone to do what they did to her?"

Jean said Ms. Georgia is doing much better and is recovering with help from her family. Even so, her road to recovery will be a long one.

"I just talked to Ms. Georgia over the weekend and she is feeling better," said Jean. "She's still in rehab. She was really battered and has a lot to overcome, but she is doing a lot better and she is looking forward to coming home."

A man who identified himself as Kwame Becton's uncle was in court Wednesday. He claims his nephew has been dealing with a mental condition. He said he would have Becton's attorney contact Action News 5 for their side of the story, but so far, no comment has been made.

Becton remains in jail on a $500,000 bond.
