Car hits ice patch, slides 60 feet down embankment, lands near lake

Posted: Updated:
(WMC-TV) - On Riverport Road in South Memphis, crews scrambled to put safety cones around a puddle of water in front of the Valero Plant. It seems every time a vehicle splashes through the water, cold temperatures turn it into dangerous ice.

Brandon Taylor can tell you how slippery the road gets. A friend was driving him to work Thursday morning when ice created by the puddle sent them spinning.

"Its been down there for days, I guess it finally froze up," said Taylor.

Taylor says their car kept spinning and then slid some 60 feet down an embankment. He says they were plunging toward a lake until they crashed into a big rock, causing damage to the front of the car.

"I thought we were going into the water, I honestly thought were going into the water," said Taylor.

Someone called police, and officers began directing traffic around the icy mess. Luckily, neither passenger was injured.
