Queen Latifah dominates entertainment industry

Posted: Updated:
(WMC-TV) - Queen Latifah is taking the daytime TV world by storm. She has long been a worldwide entertainment icon as a musician, record label president, author, and actress. Now, add to that, successful talk show host.

"I just wanted to be able to be myself. Actually I wouldn't have done it if I couldn't just be me everyday," said the host, whose real name is Dana Owens.

Not only is she herself, but in every show she introduces her audience to her friends, people who most of us would consider celebrities. These are people she met through the years.

"I also know a lot of the actors and musicians who will be coming on the show and I know them as people, so I wanted to be able to reveal more layers of the human beings they are, not just these celebrities," said Latifah.

This comes at a time when Latifah's star is only rising.

Just in the last few weeks, she had a big role on the Grammys and sang "America The Beautiful" before the Super Bowl.

"I've been really, really blessed to be a part of some pretty big events this year and I started my year kind of chill, just kind of taking a vacation and then it turned into all these wonderful things that continue to happen. So I'm just appreciative."

With producers like Will and Jada Smith among others, Latifah's latest project appears to be a big success. Last month it was renewed for a second season.
