(WMC-TV) - Some college students waited as early as Friday night to wait in line to take part of ESPN's College GameDay at the FedExForum Saturday.

Now, among other fans, they wait to watch the Tigers take on the Bulldogs in one of the biggest Memphis games this year.

"I've been here since one o'clock, I went home for lunch, and I came back for game day tonight," said fan Edarus Jones.

After watching the show inside, many other fans went home for a quick nap before heading back to FedexForum to get in line for Saturday night's game against Gonzaga, which is putting a spotlight on Memphis.

"Memphis has kind of it's own facts and things, like Beale Street and stuff like that, and it attracts the attention, but for it to be the Memphis Tigers I feel like that makes it exciting for us as students and for all the fans out there," said  fan Rory Dedmon. "I absolutely love the hype, the fact that it makes the community come together. And everybody just gets hyped together."

As if that national spotlight is not enough, there is another visitor in town: the Travelocity Roaming Gnome

"People love the gnome," said Jeff Shelton, Gnome Handler.

The gnome made its rounds at local restaurants like Muddy's Bakeshop and Cozy Corner Saturday afternoon

"They follow him on Instagram and Twitter, @roaminggnome. They show up, wanna take pictures, people have been stalking him a bit." said Shelton.

He even stopped by Action News 5 Saturday during the morning news, and he is expected to be back at Fedex Forum Saturday night, which is where fans will be too as they show pride in their city and their school.

"I'm hoping that it draws some good positive attention to the program and hopefully we get a good win ... on national television," said fan Ryan Ladley.

The Tigers beat the Bulldogs, 60 to 54.
