TIPTON COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A small amount of sleet fell from the sky in Tipton County Wednesday morning. But after lunch, snow started to fall forcing schools to close their doors early.

Buses had no problem navigating the roads despite the snowfall that blanketed Tipton County.

"I'd rather be off the roads, better be safe than sorry. It's winter. We needed a good winter," said parent Jessica Whitaker.

Most parents say they are glad school officials made the decision to dismiss early. When the school day started, the roads were dry.

School officials say they decided to dismiss early because they were afraid the snow would freeze before regular dismissal time.

"It is a bit of an inconvenience, but you know if you take your time and keep distance between cars, you'll get there safely," said parent Lashanda Somerville.

Some kids say they a ready to get back to school.

"I don't like it. I wish it was summertime," says fourth grader Jerrianna Somerville.

Some parents agree.

"I hate this kind of snow. I need it to warm up," said Covington resident Jean Maclin.

The white stuff may be nice to look at, but many Tipton County parents say they wish this wacky weather would make up its mind.

"Kids get all excited that they don't have school and you tell them they have to go to bed early. They're like, we don't have school tomorrow, and then when they wake up, they're like what happened, there's no snow," adds parent Jodi Turner.
