MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Memphis police are looking for a suspected rapist who attacked a woman in East Memphis and even kidnapped her.

Neighbors are just hearing about the incident and say it is a reminder to be careful after dark.

Gwen Stampley has lived in the Hickory Hill neighborhood for 15 years.

"It's pretty quiet, since I've been here I haven't had any problems," said Stampley.

In fact, she says the biggest problem is graffiti on fences and homes. But about a month ago, police say a woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted just down the street.

It happened on Brownbark Drive near Winchester Pointe. A woman was walking on the road just before midnight when a man drove up and asked her if she needed a ride. When she refused, police say the man hit her in the head and face and forced her into his car. Then he drove about a block away and sexually assaulted her. Afterward he drove off and left her at the scene.

Police say the victim described the man as in his 30s, about 5 foot 10, and is heavy set with short brown hair. She says he was driving a small four-door, dark colored car with a piece of cardboard covering the back passenger window and a license plate containing the letters PFJ.

If you have any information that could lead to an arrest you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH or  or go to the Crime Stoppers website here: memphis.crimestoppersweb.com/
