CharlestonSouthern's Tory Schroff has been named The Crons Brand Big SouthConference Pitcher of the Week for the opening weekend of the 2014 season, theconference office announced on Monday.
Schroff,a senior from Mt. Laurel, N.J., struck out eight batters in six innings pitchedto snag a 2-0 win over Villanova on Feb. 15. The left-hander scattered justthree hits in the contest and did not allow an extra base hit. His strikeouttotal was just one shy of his career high of nine. Last season, Schroff was asecond team All-Big South selection with a 6-5 record and a 3.52 ERA.
TheBuccaneers swept Villanova on the weekend to start 3-0 behind Schroff'stone-setting start in Saturday's opener. CSU allowed only one run 18 inningsagainst The Wildcats in Saturday's doubleheader.
Campbell'sDanny Pardo was named the Big South Conference Baseball Choice Hotels Player ofthe Week. Pardo, a freshman from Pembroke Pines, Fla., batted .750 with ninehits and an RBI to lead the Camels to a 3-0 series sweep over La Salle over theweekend.
