Charleston Southern's Tory Schroff has been named The Crons Brand Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the opening weekend of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Schroff, a senior from Mt. Laurel, N.J., struck out eight batters in six innings pitched to snag a 2-0 win over Villanova on Feb. 15. The left-hander scattered just three hits in the contest and did not allow an extra base hit. His strikeout total was just one shy of his career high of nine. Last season, Schroff was a second team All-Big South selection with a 6-5 record and a 3.52 ERA.
The Buccaneers swept Villanova on the weekend to start 3-0 behind Schroff's tone-setting start in Saturday's opener. CSU allowed only one run 18 innings against The Wildcats in Saturday's doubleheader.
