Federal agents raid West Tennessee business

GATES, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Federal agents took the tiny town of Gates, Tenn. by surprise Thursday morning when they raided a local business.

Longtime employees at Wright's Auto Parts and Metal say they were shocked when they got to work and federal agents shut them down. The FBI spent hours Thursday morning combing every inch of the scrap yard.

"They just rolled in and said everybody shut down the yard," said employee Jimmy Terry.

Agents would not tell Action News Five why they were searching.

The FBI only confirms that they had reason to execute a search warrant.

"They was wanting to know about trucks and truck drivers and stuff like that," said employee James McCorkle.

According to employees, FBI agents started asking each worker for their ID and then questioned each of them.

"Different stuff like who's been putting wrenches in barrels and stuff like that," said Terry.

Most employees say they have worked for the scrap yard for years.

They say the owner, Nick Wright, is a good employer.

"I really hope Nick is in the clear because he's a great guy," said Terry.

Many here say they are worried now about having a place to work.
