MUNFORD, TN -

(WMC-TV) - As Black History Month comes to an end, a Mid-South high school is recognizing two of its graduates, who have traveled the world with their talents.

"This is my home. I was born and raised here," said Missouri State University Music Professor Dr. Todd Payne.

It has been a busy few days for Munford High School graduates Dr. Todd Payne and Dr. Ebony Preston Woods. The renown opera singers returned to their alma mater to rehearse and perform with chorus members.

They are getting ready for a homecoming concert Thursday.

"To be coming back, it's a way to tell my mom, friends, teachers here at Munford High School 'thank you,'" said Dr. Payne.

In addition to singing, they are also getting a chance to teach high schoolers some valuable lessons.

"I hope something in instilled in their minds and souls that if a graduate of Munford High did it, they can do it too," added Payne.

"I had people believe in me and speak life in me and told me you can do this before I ever knew it. That helped me. I want to give that back," added professional vocalist Dr. Ebony Preston Woods.

Students will be performing 10 songs with the opera stars. For many, they are an inspiration.

"To push myself to go as far as I can," said MHS Senior Whitney Barton.

"They teach me that I can do a lot more than what I've been doing. I can learn so much," agreed MHS Senior Nicholas Disch.

The homecoming concert will take place in the Munford High School gym Thursday at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
