MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis man left his two young children home alone while he sold drugs in the parking lot at Oak Court mall, police say.

Adam Gaia, 33, is charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated child abuse.

According to an affidavit of complaint, Gaia was known to drive around the mall parking lot and sell marijuana out of his car. Police say they pulled over his car and found more than two pounds of weed in a black garbage bag sitting on the passenger seat.

Gaia cooperated with investigators, who say he told them his recently deceased uncle's house was the drop point used between him and his supplier. Police say they found more than seven pounds of weed at that house.

According to the affidavit of complaint, Gaia told investigators his two daughters, ages 8 months and 2 years old, were left alone at his other house while he went and worked the mall parking lot. Police went to that address and found both children home alone, unharmed. The children were released to their mother and an uncle.

Gaia is locked up in the Shelby County jail on $70,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
