Olive Branch officer recovering in an Atlanta hospital

An Olive Branch police officer -- injured in the line of duty -- is recovering in an Atlanta hospital.

Officer Mark Ayers was shot in June while investigating a suspicious vehicle.

He's paralyzed from the waist down.

In July -- fellow Olive Branch officers greeted a smiling Mark Ayers as he was wheeled to the ambulance.

Then Memphis and Olive Branch officers escorted him to the charter plane.

From Memphis International Airport -- Ayers flew to Atlanta --  where he is undergoing special rehab treatment.

Olive Branch police are still searching for the gunman who shot and paralyzed officer Mark Ayers.

Today -- the Collierville police department presented a check for 31-hundred dollars to Olive Branch police -- for officer Ayers.

The department raised the money to help Ayers with his medical costs -- and changes he will have to make once he's home.

Ayers will have to make both his house and his car wheelchair accessible.

Ayers says, "This is an awesome thing that the men and women of the police station of Collierville are doing.  It just amazes me the outpouring of love coming from the community and the police community."

The Collierville police department raised the money through a golf tournament.
