An accident involving multiple tractor trailers Tuesday afternoon caused a massive traffic back-up on I-40 near Brinkley, Arkansas.
Officials said the accident happened on the westbound side of the interstate near exit 202. Investigators at the scene said the chain-reaction accident likely started when a car attempted to pull to the side of the road during an intense downpour.
Four tractor trailers and several cars were involved in the crash. Eight people were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Westbound lanes of traffic were blocked for hours after the accident, and officials used Highway 70 as a detour while crews cleaned debris from the roadway.
Video from Chopper 5 showed a huge traffic back-up, lasting for miles, due to the accident. Traffic in eastbound lanes was also affected.
Officials cleared the roadway and re-opened it to traffic shortly before 6:00 p.m.
