Hundreds of Mid-South volunteers took back their neighborhoods by serving Memphis and Shelby County Saturday in the 14th annual Servathon.

Volunteers served 15 different project sites around town, including Target House, Memphis Heritage and MIFA.

At Playhouse on the Square in Midtown, volunteers spent the afternoon painting, cleaning and sorting costumes. They traded in relaxing on a sunny afternoon for the chance to serve their community.

"Memphis is a great place. And I get the sense of ownership. Those of us that live here, we want visitors to come to see that Memphis cares about where Memphis is," said project coordinator Edna Christopher. "That we don't wait for other people to do it for us. We do it ourselves."

There's an abundance of opportunities for people looking to serve in our community. Learn more by visiting Volunteer Memphis.
